Caribbean Latin American Action (CLAA) will sponsor this two-day conference in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Co-hosts include the Foreign Investment Advisory Service (FIAS), a joint facility of the IFC and the World Bank, and the Office for the Promotion of Investment of the Dominican Republic (OPI-RD).
The Conference is designed to allow frank discussion of investment policy and the responsibility of government, private sector leadership, and civil groups to effectively engage and implement practices that will promote economic development -- while protecting against possible abuses and negative societal impact.
Sessions will address sustainable growth, profitability and responsible development; the role of the region's apparel industry in the development process; agro processing in the region; how to balance industry, tourism and the environment; and how regulatory compliance can be attained, either through rules and/or voluntary initiatives.
