Contemplating the Future

This year in Villa d’Este, the Forum will start by looking at the bigger picture of sustainable wealth – the historical evidence behind successful wealth creation and maintenance. It will also examine a number of themes in great depth:

• the constantly changing international regulatory and revenue landscape for wealthy individuals – EU Savings Directive, Money Laundering regulations • the development of new trust structures and jurisdictions in estate planning – Switzerland, Singapore • new investment tools and portfolio structure techniques – hedge funds, cross-border planning • the use of trust or foundation structures in divorce settlements • whether the use of the courts is the best way forward for dispute resolution – cross-border enforcement, private settlements, and • how the local interpretation of legal privilege can affect the role and effectiveness of the legal adviser

In addition to these topics, there will also be a focus on ‘new wealth’ -- specifically the emergence of wealth in the PRC. As part of the programme, and set against the background of the surging economies of the region the forum will look at:

• estate planning for clients from those jurisdictions, and • the important cultural differences of doing business there.

The structure of the Forum will be a combination of keynote addresses, panels of experts and specific roundtable sessions on particular topics where practitioners can exchange best practice.
