Bahamas International Business and Finance Summit (BIBFS)
Bimini Bay Resort, Bimini, The Bahamas
January 28 - 31, 2010
Since 2004, the Bahamas Financial Services Board (BFSB) has hosted an annual “Retreat”, which serves to bring together stakeholders from the government, regulators and private sector in the financial services industry for intense discussion of key drivers of our industry. The primary objective of such interaction is to formulate strategies for the growth of The Bahamas financial services industry, while also providing opportunities for networking in apt settings within the Family Islands of The Bahamas.
Both public and private sector participants have noted the critical importance of engaging all industry stakeholders on a regular basis for open discussions on financial services sector issues – and acknowledged that the annual event provided an ideal opportunity to share information on the strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities facing the industry. The annual Retreat has attracted public sector involvement led by the Prime Minister along with all relevant Cabinet Ministers, all Industry Regulators, and the Leader and delegation of the Opposition.
In consideration of the developments within the global economy – and its impacts on the financial services and general economy of The Bahamas – BFSB has expanded the Retreat to reflect the strategy statement released jointly with the Ministry of Finance in July, that seeks to leverage the opportunities for international business through an integrated approach. The International Business and Finance Summit will be held in January, in Bimini.
In a world that is flat, The Bahamas continues to provide a base for regional and global business. The IBFS, in recognition of the tectonic shifts occurring among client needs, regulatory demands and the global economy, will provide razor edge analysis and perspectives on how clients and their institutions may respond. International Business - including financial services - is a dynamic business with significant opportunities for growth and contribution to the socio-economic health of The Bahamas.
BFSB also will incorporate the annual Bahamas Briefing (BB) outreach for external intermediaries into a pre-Summit activity on Thursday January 28. International Guests will then travel to Bimini for insightful presentations and networking with local and international stakeholders at the Summit.
