2nd Annual Corporate Spelling Bee

During the official Chamber of Commerce Week, the Business Education Committee will host the "Second Annual Corporate Spelling Bee Contest" with the theme "Enriching The Learning Experience Of Adults In The Workplace". This will be opened to all business organizations – members and non-members of the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce.

The preliminaries for the Second Annual Corporate Spelling Bee Contest will take place at the J. Whitney Pinder Conference Center, Collins Ave. on May 8th, 2003, and the finals will take place at the British Colonial Hilton Hotel (Winner of 2002) on May 15th, 2003.

The Committee's goal is to establish a "National Corporate Spelling Bee Team" by 2004, through private/public sector partnership. It is hoped that the National Corporate Spelling Bee team from The Bahamas will be able to compete with the International Corporate Spelling Bees by 2005. The annual activities will provide the means for the establishment of a dynamic 'Workplace Literacy Unit' within the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce. The Committee envisions a well-structured and effective Workplace Literacy Program that would provide a learning opportunity for adults in the workplace.

The objective is to get the local business community actively involved in researching FTAA, and to give them the opportunity to address key issues that significantly impact their business, their socio-economic position and their future growth in the competitive global market.

During the official Awards Banquet, which will culminate 'Chamber of Commerce Week', the Business Education Committee will recognise all participating companies from the business community. The top three winning companies will be presented with "Prestigious Business Awards".
