The Bahamas: IFC Caribbean 2016

Monday April 25th, 2016

BFSB CEO Tanya McCartney wrote on “Family Offices Find an Ideal Home in The Bahamas” for the IFC Caribbean 2016 edition.

Joining her in the special “Bahamas” feature were Linda Beidler-D’Aguilar of Glinton Sweeting O’Brien, writing on “Family Offices: A Practitioner’s Overview” and Peter Strauss of The Strauss Law Firm, writing on “The Bahamas: an Insurance Gateway”.

Gilbert Cassar, Ivylyn Cassar and Dillon Dean of Equity Bank and Trust provided a Q&A on the company’s success and the importance of small boutique financial institutions competing with the global giants. And, the feature ended with a “Bahamas At a Glance” section highlighting Foundations, Shipping, Trusts, Funds, Private Trust Companies, Asset Management, Regulation and Insurance.

In his welcome remarks, Editor Michael Agnew notes: “Whether it is the on/off merry go round of ill-prepared blacklists or calls for them to adhere to stringent regulatory standards, the Caribbean has managed to maintain its financial crown.” He also notes that in this fifth edition of IFC Caribbean, a wide range of expert contributors - including financial practitioners, academics & regulators from across the region - examines how the Caribbean has adapted to wave after wave of international regulatory initiatives. “It also provides practitioners with an in depth guide to recent developments within the traditional financial services arena, designed to improve and streamline the region’s already stellar offerings, including but not limited to, trusts, funds, insurance and Citizenship by Investment Programmes.”
